At our partner site Curonian Spit, the cooperation with WH ambassadors has continued and grown! Last year, Curonian Spit National Park officially selected 32 representatives and established the Ambassadors Club. The New Year started with a very important cross-border appointment.
On the 18th of January, the Ambassadors of the Curonian spit went on a study visit to the Russian side of the Spit and met with representatives of Kurshskoya Kosa National Park, on of DUNC’s Associated Partners.
This visit represented one of the first steps to strengthen the cooperation between borders and especially between the two administrations that are responsible for the UNESCO World Heritage property. The visit allowed Ambassadors to have a better idea on how the two parts of the site are connected and to learn more about how Kurshkaya Kosa National park deals with similar challenges and opportunities.
During the study trip, the park´s staff showed the most interesting sights and informed about their activities. Ambassadors have visited famous routes like „Dancing forest“, „Efa Height“ or „Duke‘s forest“, have been to the Visitor centre with open-air expositions. One day trip was full of experiences and good emotions!
This year Lithuania celebrates the 20th anniversary of the inclusion of the Curonian spit in the UNESCO World Heritage List, therefore it is important for the Ambassadors, who promote the Curonian spit’s natural and cultural heritage, to know the entire territory of their WH site.
